Thirteen of us set off on a sunny Valentines day morning from Eyam to climb up Sir William Hill and descend to Bretton Clough for coffee and salted caramel cake on the conveniently placed log. We then climbed in the sheltered, sunny clough to Abney, and followed the tranquil route through wooded Abney clough to have lunch at the junction of paths and river at Stoke Ford, the photo shows the Peak District and Northern counties Footpath Preservation Society sign, erected in 1939. The society was founded in 1894 and has it's roots in the Manchester Association for the preservation of Ancient Public Footpaths from 1826.
We then climbed round Eyam moor crossing a small stream where Alex slipped landing chest down in the mud, he wasn't even reading his Kindle. Light snow flurries followed us over Eyam Moor before the sun returned for our descent past Ladywash mine and the Youth Hostel to Eyam.Harvey
