Harvey wrote:----

Thirteen of us set off on a sunny Valentines day morning from Eyam to climb up Sir William Hill and descend to Bretton Clough for coffee and salted caramel cake on the conveniently placed log. We then climbed in the sheltered, sunny clough to Abney, and followed the tranquil route through wooded Abney clough to have lunch at the junction of paths and river at Stoke Ford, the photo shows the Peak District and Northern counties Footpath Preservation Society sign, erected in 1939. The society was founded in 1894 and has it's roots in the Manchester Association for the preservation of Ancient Public Footpaths from 1826.

We then climbed round Eyam moor crossing a small stream where Alex slipped landing chest down in the mud, he wasn't even reading his Kindle. Light snow flurries followed us over Eyam Moor before the sun returned for our descent past Ladywash mine and the Youth Hostel to Eyam.

Weekend Sherwood 29 to 31/01/2016

Janet H. helped arrange a weekend away at Sherwood Forest YHA.
Sherwood Forest Weekend - January 2016
Ten SWOG members attended a weekend at Sherwood Forest YHA in January 2016.
The hostel is nice and modern (purpose built in 1997) in the heart of Sherwood Forest.
Sherwood Forest is home to many attractions including the Major Oak and tales of Robin Hood, with Clumber Park and Creswell Crags nearby.
It was a beautiful cold and sunny morning on the Saturday and the group set out from the hostel on an 11 mile walk, and some intrepid adventurers extended this to 19miles.
The weekend was enjoyed by all including Robbo, who came all the way from London, and treated us to some of his jokes.
