Fourteen of us set off along the river into the gently rolling countryside, after elevenses in the children's play area we climbed through the forest and along a south facing bank to find an abundance of sweet juicy blackberries, the first of many free treats, there were also sunflowers straining to face the sun.
We had lunch in the sculpture park by a silver water nymph before circling the lake and passing art works by Henry Moor, Barbara Hepworth and many others. As we left the park we had an unexpected encounter of a maize maze, the path passing right through the jungle of six foot plants, the farmer had planted, our final sweet surprise was a tree of sweet purple plums that we eagerly harvested before walking through the grounds of Canon Hall, that was built on the proceeds of iron.
